Day 47

You Were Never Meant to Fight Alone

It's easy to miss a small detail in Ephesians 6: every command in this passage is plural. Paul isn't picturing one heroic Christian single-handedly taking on all the forces of darkness. He's picturing God's people, standing together.

That matters because isolation makes you vulnerable. The enemy's strategy often isn't a direct frontal attack; it's convincing you that nobody would understand, so you hide the temptation, the pain, the marriage trouble, the questions you're afraid to ask out loud. And what stays hidden usually grows stronger, not weaker.

But something shifts when things come into the light; when you confess instead of conceal; when you ask for help instead of managing alone; when you let someone pray with you instead of carrying it by yourself. Paul calls believers to "pray in the Spirit on all occasions... for all the Lord's people" (Ephesians 6:18), a picture of a whole community holding each other up, not a solo act.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can say isn't a confident declaration of faith. It's an honest admission: "I am not doing well, and I need help." That isn’t showing weakness. That's someone stepping back into formation instead of trying to hold the line alone.

Think about the areas of your life you've been carrying solo: a struggle at work, a tension in your marriage, a habit you can't shake, a doubt you've never said out loud to another person. None of those were meant to be fought in isolation.

Today, consider one thing you've been hiding or carrying alone, and consider telling one trusted person; not manufacturing vulnerability, but because you were never actually built to fight this battle by yourself.

Ask God to show you where you've been fighting something alone that was never meant to be carried solo. Thank Him for the people He's placed in your life to stand with you. Ask for the courage to be honest with one of them this week instead of hiding.
