Day 7

Give God the Pen

Chosen. Adopted. Redeemed. Sealed. Four words, one chapter, and every one of them describes something God did before you did anything to deserve it. But there's a phrase underneath all of it that Paul keeps coming back to: in Christ.

Not in your job. Not in your parenting wins or losses. Not in what happened in your marriage this week. Not in what somebody said about you, good or bad. In Christ.

Think back to the question this week started with: Who gets to name you? Your job wants the pen. Your past wants the pen. The compliment you got yesterday and the criticism you got today both want the pen. The mistake from years ago still reaches for it sometimes.

Paul has spent this whole chapter taking the pen out of everybody else's hands and putting it back in God's. And here's what's true if you're in Christ: you are chosen. You are adopted. You are redeemed. You are sealed. Not because you earned it this week. Because of who you are.

That doesn't erase today's real responsibilities. You'll still parent, work, lead, and show up for the people who need you. But you get to do all of it from an identity instead of for one. There's a difference between working hard because you're trying to become somebody and working hard because you already are somebody, in Christ, and this is just what love looks like today.

Before your feet hit the floor tomorrow, before your inbox, your calendar, or your past get a word in, remember: God already spoke. You are His. Let His voice go first, and let it be the loudest one you carry into this week with your family, your work, and your own heart.

Thank God that your identity isn't something you achieve; it's something you've been given in Christ. Ask Him which of these truths, chosen, adopted, redeemed, or sealed, feels hardest for you to actually believe right now. Ask Him to help you live from that truth today instead of trying to earn it.

Ephesians 1:11-12

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Colossians 3:3

For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
