Thought of the day
A seal used to mean something simple: this belongs to someone, and it's not finished until that someone says it is. Paul uses that picture to describe what happened the moment you believed.
"When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance" (Ephesians 1:13-14). God put His Spirit in you like a down payment, His own guarantee that He's not walking away from what He started.
That matters on the days you feel like you should be further along by now. Still fighting the same struggle you thought you'd have beaten years ago. Still short-tempered with your spouse in the exact way you promised to work on last year. Still watching your kids and wondering if you're getting any of this right. The Spirit inside you isn't proof that you've arrived. It's proof that God isn't finished.
Your feelings on a given day don't determine His faithfulness. You can wake up flat, distracted, distant from God, and the seal doesn't peel off because your emotions had an off morning. It's not resting on how close you feel. It's resting on what God did.
This is worth remembering in the ordinary moments today, not just the crisis ones. When you snap at your kids and immediately regret it. When you scroll past something you shouldn't have. When you wonder if you're really growing or just repeating the same year on a loop. The Spirit's presence in you is God's promise that the story isn't over, and it's not up to you to finish it alone.
You're not a finished project. You're a sealed one. Let that be enough for today, even on the days you don't feel like enough yourself.
